How to Join

Want to learn more about how cars work? Want to make cars faster? Want to learn how to do so on a $2000 budget? This club is made just for you!

There are multiple ways to join Wreck Racing. If you are unsure whether the club is for you, we welcome you to join our mailing list by sending us an e-mail. All new members are alotted a "grace period" or a dues-free membership. After the this period, all dues shall be made out to the club by cash, check, or paypal (dues+paypal fees required) in the amount of $75 per year.

Heres how to join:

1) Send us an e-mail:

2) Show up to a club event:

  • Wreck Racing holds biweekly work days in the Student Competition Center (directions at bottom of page)
  • Checking the website calendar will infrom you about future club events such as track days (only available to dues-paying members), SCCA Autocrosses, trips to Andretti's, pizza parties, or whatever event we may hold.
  • As always, the Grassroots Motorsports Competition is in the fall of every year in Gainesville, Florida. All members are welcome to join at the competition. As per the generosity of SGA, the competition was free for all registered Wreck Racing members. In the future, this should be happening again.

What should you expect?
As a dues paying member, you get to decide your level of commitment. Member commitment varies from an occasional suggestion to being a project leader or even to even driving the car at competitions or races. Each member will get out of Wreck Racing what he/she puts in. As a member, not only will you learn your way around a machine shop, but you will also learn about various automobile components from basics like tires and maintenance to more advanced jobs such as engine wiring and tuning or forced induction.

Though Wreck Racing is all about having fun and learning, we do expect members to abide by all of the rules of the Student Competition Center. Here is a basic list of the rules:

  • New members need to be accompanied by an existing dues-paying member.
  • No power tools/machines can be used without at LEAST two (2) people in the shop. NO MACHINERY MAY BE USED WITHOUT PROPER INSTRUCTION OR KNOWLEDGE ON ITS USE. There are plenty of members who know how to use each piece of machinery. Let them teach you how to use it properly.
  • No sandals or innappropriate attire allowed when doing any work in the building
  • Wear safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, etc when appropriate.
  • KEEP THE TOOLS ORGANIZED, return them in clean condition to their proper spot.
  • Be polite and courteous to the other teams that use the SCC.
  • Leave the shop cleaner than when you arrived.
  • If you do not know how to do something, ASK someone.

That's cool and all, but where do I go to see the cars?

The current Wreck Racing challenge car resides in the Student Competition Center. This building is located behind the Skiles Classroom Building.
